J. S. Calkins Store, W. Lubec, Me. 54.
The Calkins family, originally from Wales then Nova Scotia, settled in the Lubec region about 1830. Some became landholders, and John Calkins built a general store in West Lubec, part of the Town of Lubec. After an altercation his son John Jr. set up this shop nearby. With its post office, the store became a commercial center along what is now County Route 189.
