A portrait of one of Captain Frank I. Pendleton’s sons. Pendleton’s wife, Ella Jane Erskine, died giving birth to Irving and his twin brother Benjamin in 1879. There is no record of Irving going to sea as a baby, this was likely done from a photograph. This portrait was used to show Frank did indeed have a son and he wanted a portrait done just like his. This was most likely done before his ship, NANCY PENDLETON (1884-87), sailed back to Searsport, Maine.
