Lime kilns and shipyards stood cheek-by-jowl along the Thomaston waterfront in 1869. The Watts Shipyard was one of the busiest and is about to launch the bark KATE HARDING. The staging around her hull (except for the poles) has been removed and riggers are rapidly sending up the rest of her spars. The mizzen topmast stands on end, about to be hoisted aloft.
