Mainers in the merchant marine traveled all over the world and brought back souvenirs for their families. This includes a variety of clothes from Asia which are now part of our textile collection. Intricate hand stitched embroidery on these clothes include a wide variety of imagery that give insight into the world view of 19th c Asians. We will look closely at some beautiful embroidery and talk about the significance of the flora, fauna, and objects depicted.

Member Mondays are included as a member benefit and feature intimate monthly Zoom lunchtime programs about objects and photographs in our collection presented by staff members.
