When Rusticators flocked to Maine in the late 19th to mid-20th centuries, they sought a rustic vacation to retreat from their busy city lives. To get on the water, they commissioned locally-built small wooden boats: rowboats for exploration, daysailers for picnics, and racing boats for yacht club competitions. Join Cipperly Good, the Richard Saltonstall Jr. Curator of Maritime History, as she gives highlights from our newest exhibit showcasing the Maine-built boats at the heart of the rusticating culture and explores their enduring impact.
Member Mondays are included as a member benefit and feature intimate monthly Zoom lunchtime programs presented by staff members. Topics vary every month – it’s a fun way to take a close look at items in our collections and get a peek behind the scenes at PMM. Not a member? Join here.
