The Chart Collections at Penobscot Marine Museum
May 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join archivist Sarah Collins for a virtual tour of the Penobscot Marine Museum’s chart collections as we explore 200 years of viewing the world from a mariner’s perspective. Learn why charts were important and how they changed over time to reflect cultural interactions, increased knowledge, and the occasional volcano. We’ll also discuss some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of archival work to make this collection accessible through computer records and manage its unique challenges.
Sarah Collins has a master’s degree in museum studies from the University of New Hampshire, and has spent much of the last 20 years working on ships and at museums up and down the east coast. She has been working in Penobscot Marine Museum’s chart collection since Fall 2021.
Free, suggested admission $5
