SUMMARY:Children’s Explorer Camp — Kids on Land and at Sea in the 19th Century
DESCRIPTION:What was life like for the children living in maritime communities in the late 1800s? During this camp\, children will discover daily life long ago along Penobscot Bay and on board ships at sea through games\, crafts\, songs\, and (fun) chores. Before and after care is available. Registration deadline is January 10. Register here. \nAges 5-10\, $50 base rate\, flexible pricing options. \nFlexible Pricing\nWe want local museum programming to be available for anyone and we understand that different people have different financial situations. In light of that\, we have three options for pricing. The base rate covers the cost of this program and the Pay-It-Forward rate helps us be able to provide a reduced rate to keep these programs available to all. Choose the price that works best for your family.

SUMMARY:Maritime & Maine Topics Author Series—Mark Borton
DESCRIPTION:Author Mark Borton will reveal the full story that is documented in his new book\, Moondoggle: Franklin Roosevelt and the Fight for Tidal-Electric Power at Passamaquoddy Bay. “Quoddy” was to be built off the coast of Maine and New Brunswick and would generate enough electricity to power much of New England. It was part of Roosevelt’s trust-busting “public power” initiatives such as the Boulder Dam and the Tennessee Valley Authority. FDR’s pioneering project was highly controversial and full of intrigue. \nThe Island Institute’s Working Waterfront said Moondoggle: Franklin Roosevelt and the Fight for Tidal-Electric Power at Passamaquoddy Bay (Down East Books\, 2023) is “A fascinating work that goes beyond history to include society\, culture\, politics\, and community… This absorbing story informs us about where Maine is today.” \nFree\, Suggested admission $5\, register here \nPhoto: Mark Borton at Beaver Brook as it falls into Passamaquoddy Bay\, Calais\, Maine.
