The Jacob Pike was built by Newbert and Wallace in Thomaston, Maine in 1949; she’s still in service (2021), but was recently sold out of state. She’s been a graceful beast, boasting good lines and good stability, even freighted down to 12” of freeboard and cruising through the choppy waters of Cobscook Bay. She’s been much photographed; Kosti Ruohomaa was one of the other notable shooters who captured her on film. Maynard watched a crew painting her much later at Billings Diesel & Marine in 1982.
