James River, VA

One of Kosti Ruohomaa’s assignments for Life magazine in 1945 was to travel in a boat along the James River, in Virginia. He took a variety of photos, including cows drinking from the river, ivy-covered historic homes, Historic Jamestown, and his bow-tie-wearing guide. Kosti’s photo of the 1639 church tower at Jamestown was published in the May 27, 1957 issue of Life magazine on page 50. Seven years after Kosti’s death, two of his photos from this trip, pictures of former presidents’ homes, were printed in the July 5, 1968 issue of Life on page 13.
