What is hidden in the Penobscot Marine Museum archives, and how can you explore them? With records from sailors, captains, fishermen, shipbuilders, and other Penobscot Bay residents over the past 250 years, there’s a lot here. Join us for a look at the letters, diaries, logbooks, and other manuscripts in PMM’s collection and hear some of the great stories we uncovered during this winter’s cataloging project. Project Archivist Libby Meier is an archivist and historian focused on Maine’s maritime history. She was previously a project archivist at the Maine Maritime Museum and wrote a master’s thesis on Maine-built ships for the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. Her diverse career has also included working as an interpreter at Mystic Seaport Museum and as a sailor on traditionally-rigged tall ships. Libby has been at PMM since the fall of 2020 on a special project to catalog and write finding aids for the museum’s extensive manuscript collections.
