The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation funded a recent project to expand cataloging of 600 log books, ledgers, and customs records in the PMM collections. Join us to learn how the work was done and see examples of historical treasures uncovered. Focusing on instances of emotion found in otherwise routine record books, the talk highlights the dangers local seagoing families faced at sea during the U.S. Civil War and the risks of commercial shipping under sail even in peacetime. Humor, empathy, respect, and longing reveal the character and circumstances of the writers. Register here to receive a reminder email.
