Catching the Wind with Steve Hallee

Maine native, Science Teacher, Inventor and founder of Green Ridge Energy, Tecwind, Sensaflo and Silverleaf Instruments will discuss how wind is generated by the sun in our atmosphere on earth, how the ancients captured wind for sailing vessels and for wind power on land to grind corn and pump water. Details on how sails and windmill blades have changed over the years to optimize how much power they catch from the wind will be presented. The lecture will include the latest offshore wind power technology and the latest Sailing America's Cup designs will be discussed.

Maine Boatbuilding Forum: Maine Port Pilots Remember Capt. Bill Abbott

Captain William Abbott, a 1945 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, spent fifty years piloting vessels into many ports including those of the Penobscot River and Bay. Many of Maine’s port pilots were mentored by Capt. Abbott. They will share memories and lessons learned from Capt. Bill Abbott as they honor his legacy of providing safe passage through difficult waters.
