The oil painting of the schooner NANCY HANKS was created by Antonio Jacobsen in 1918, soon after it was launched. Most of the ship’s portraits we have explored during Peek into Paintings are from the mid to late 1800s. Why was there a brief resurgence in wooden shipbuilding in the late 1910s?
