Stephanie Crossman learned the craft of fishnetting on the island of Vinalhaven from her husband’s great-grandmother, who had made her living in the net factory on the island. Today, Stephanie using this traditional technique to create works of art and functional everyday bags. Join Stephanie to watch her at work, share the history of fishnetting and perhaps go home with a treasure from her pop-up store.

Belfast lobsterman Mike Dassatt still makes his own net heads for his lobster traps. Join him to learn about net head making and the net head’s function in a lobster trap.

The Soling racing yacht is a popular one-design class. This miniature version is one of the most popular classes and has the largest number of registered models within the American Model Yachting Association racing class system.

Ken Weeks builds canoes in the traditional manner in Blue Hill. He will compare the building of a birch bark canoe in miniature with the 42 foot model currently under construction.

Educational Passages’s Program Director Cassie Stymest explains how they use GPS-equipped models to spread ocean and environmental literacy.  Classrooms around the world follow the models and explore oceanic phenomena.
