Most of the ship’s portraits we have explored during Peek into Paintings are from the mid to late 1800s. Why was there a brief resurgence in wooden shipbuilding in the late 1910s? Examining what has changed and what has not in our state over 100 years is a fascinating exercise. PMM Photo Archivist Kevin Johnson has led several high school and middle school groups in exploring these phenomena and he continues to explore it on his own. Using the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. photos as "Then", he and his students found the same vantage point to take "Now" photos. Join him for a tour around Waldo, Knox and Washington Counties as he shares some highlights and discusses the process.
