A potluck dinner and panel discussion to explore the possibilities for a Maine Sail Freight Project. PMM is collaborating with Greenhorns, MOFGA and Maine Farmland Trust. Panelists include boat builder, sailor Lu Yoder, PMM curator Cipperly Good, and Patrick Kiley, Tianna Kennedy, and Severine Fleming, from the Vermont Sail Freight Project and the Greenhorns. Mariners are invited to record their stories with SCI researchers as part of the American Merchant Marine Veterans Oral History Project. Catching the Wind with Steve Hallee

Maine native, Science Teacher, Inventor and founder of Green Ridge Energy, Tecwind, Sensaflo and Silverleaf Instruments will discuss how wind is generated by the sun in our atmosphere on earth, how the ancients captured wind for sailing vessels and for wind power on land to grind corn and pump water. Details on how sails and windmill blades have changed over the years to optimize how much power they catch from the wind will be presented. The lecture will include the latest offshore wind power technology and the latest Sailing America's Cup designs will be discussed.
